Dear Subscriber Full Name, About five years ago, at a live show, the person with the mic kicked their set off with, “Wow, how lucky are we?!”
Their positivity made my eyes hit the ceiling.
They paused for a minute, smiling graciously at the crowd, blinking under the fluorescent stage light, which naturally only increased my rage: get to the point, you cheesy $#@*! But as the night went on, something shifted…What if this wasn’t just mindless positivity? What if this suspiciously cheerful mic-holding individual was onto something? As a realist, I’d always considered luck as some random lightning strike—blessing a chosen few while the rest of us got drenched in life’s downpours. But what if luck is something we cultivate? Like a thriving plant or a really good kombucha scoby. My mind began bouncing to the luckiest people I know only to realize: they’re not just stumbling into fortune, they’re noticing it. They find joyful luck and happy dance at the little things: free extra butter on the popcorn, a vending machine that gives double, a stranger complimenting, a thoughtful friend's kind gesture… They view these moments as lucky, and more luck seems to follow them. It’s like the universe rewards gratitude with even more things to be grateful for! So yeah, my initial reaction to that performer may have been pure, unfiltered cynicism. But in hindsight, luck starts with gratitude. And if that’s the case…wow, how lucky are we? Now go forth and make your own luck! The Luck GurusHave you met our beloved mascot, Lucky the Deer? 🦌 Our noble (and okay, slightly dusty) steed, Lucky has been with Seltzer Kings through it all, even those early days of Danny and Mike. Originally a gift from Jeremy B’s sweet mother, Lucky’s been a silent but steed-fast part of the team, witnessing every triumph, challenge, and questionable late-night idea. Here’s to Lucky, forever watching over us with those wise, slightly judgmental eyes. Channeling his endless luck, he dubbed the team of SK The Luck Gurus (just for the month, dont worry..) Here’s your fave SK host’s top advice for you… “Luck is the residue of design,” Michael Newborn (but really, English poet John Milton) “Make your own luck. If that fails, order some online,” Vance Tucker “I think the best way to get lucky is to set realistic expectations of yourself. Like, if you’re fat and in your fifties, those 25-year-old models don’t want anything to do with you. Also, you are just being creepy; you’re old enough to be their father! Seriously, dude, age appropriate! After that, be kind, be confident, and have one really killer karaoke song! Someone will dig you! We were talking about getting lucky at the bar… right?” Dave Bledsoe “Have faith in your luck; take it all in. Maybe you’re on an upswing, maybe it’s fate, or maybe it’s just a lucky Mighty Ducks jacket. Mine hasn’t failed me yet; that’s why I only wear it on special occasions. Every lucky item has a luck meter you can’t see. if you use it constantly, the meter will drain, and it could get into unlucky territory. So keep that lucky penny charged, those lucky socks on standby, and keep that lucky Mighty Ducks jacket hanging in the closet.
