What’s up, what’s up, Subscriber First Name

The other day, my 13-going-on-30-year-old niece scowled at me over FaceTime, sneering, “Well, you’re from the 1900s!”

The NINETEEN. HUNDREDS. !!!!

She, of course, meant the ‘90s, but the way she said it made me feel like an ancient ruin. Dusty. Obsolete. Like I should be behind museum glass next to a Nokia brick phone and a Beanie Baby.

Naturally, I spiraled.

During, I landed on the 2000s. What a time. Wild. An era that somehow gave us economic recessions and white dudes in dreadlocks. Fergie was basically Celine Dion in track pants. The fashion? Confusing. The vibes? Unmatched. The memes? Eternal.

Which brings us to this timeless gem: It’s gonna be May. (Thank you for your service, JT.) No matter how old we get, the 2000s will always be there—like ringtones, trucker hats, and the quiet confidence of that guy who wore cargo shorts no matter the season. And the meme? We’ll see it again in April 2026.

While I’m still reeling from being called “vintage,” let’s dive in—before someone asks me what a CD was...

2000s Forever!!!

“The first great love of my life was Lance Bass of N’SYNC. A family friend would always be like, “Courtney, that guy is gay, it’s pretty obvious.” I would be like, “No, you are literally insane, that is the man I’m going to marry!!!” So, when Lance eventually came out, this friend framed the People Magazine cover, and I still have it in our Pod studio….” Courtney Maginnis, I Love You, But Your Music Sucks!

“In 2000, I was in middle school and always hanging out with the ultimate class clown, Chris Schwantez. He was a legend and would always wear Soap’s Shoes to school and grind everything from the bike rack outside to the lunch tables in the school cafeteria. It was one of the coolest things I’d ever seen. I thought I was tight with my rad yo-yo collection, but Schwantez was next level. After months and months of begging my mom, she finally let me get a pair of my own! It was on after that. I would carry candles in my pockets just to always be prepared to wax down a grindable ledge.
