HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!
Recently, I moved into a new home. And the very first thing my beautifully boomer parents reminded me of was this universal truth they stand firm on: MOVING. IS. STRESSFUL.
But this time, I needed to approach things differently, not to prove them wrong, but simply because I knew I could do it my way: stress-free and calm. I needed to trust myself and create a different experience than the one I was raised to expect.
So I prepped: packed weeks ahead, brought my sweet 10-month-old Pup to smell the new pad, hired movers… I tried to make the whole process as gentle and intentional as possible.
And you know what? The move went great! Smooth, simple, peaceful, even joyfully mundane. Exactly what I’d hoped for.
And yet… my parents were still stressed. They were like steamed artichokes! Panic! Confusion! Sigh... They simply couldn’t reconcile that moving didn’t have to be a crisis.
Why am I sharing this? Because it reminded me that other people’s feelings—even the people we love most - aren’t necessarily right. They don’t dictate our reality. We can control how we experience things. We get to decide what we carry and what we gently set down.
So, I urge you to take that energy and bring it into the holiday seasons, however and wherever you spend it. If this time of year is tough, we’re sending you strength to stand in your authentic self and show up as your whole being—if you’re in a safe space, you to do so, of course. If this season is sweet for you, let it be without guilt. If you couldn’t give a damn about this season, I hope it’s the most peaceful month of the year.
Here’s to trusting yourself, honoring your pace, your needs, and knowing that your experience is valid, even if others don’t quite get it.
Sending levity, light, and SIGNED POSTERS!
